The latest release of Tuxera Reliance Velocity introduces new features like Tuxera Persistence Manager along read-only compression, fs-verity, and continued fs-crypt support, making it ideal for secure high-bandwidth data collection in automotive applications, aerospace projects, and industrial automation devices. These features make Velocity an obvious choice as a file system for dashcam recorders.

With new features like Tuxera Persistence Manager together with continued fs-crypt support, the latest release of Tuxera Reliance Velocity is ideal for secure high-bandwidth data collection. The release includes read-only compression to save space on system data and fs-verity to verify data authenticity. These features improve longevity and offer cost savings for smaller embedded systems used in automotive applications, aerospace projects, and industrial automation devices.

So what are the new features and improvements?

Tuxera Persistence Manager

Tuxera Persistence Manager reduces the risk of data loss due to unplanned power interruptions. In early 2024, this feature was added to Microsoft exFAT by Tuxera, which has proved successful for automotive DVR/dashcam use cases. Now Persistence Manager has been added to Reliance Velocity to help automotive and other industries save their data exactly when needed, based on customizable time and data size intervals.

Tuxera’s patented technology ensures that changing time or size interval doesn’t affect the write amplification, instead keeping it low to maximize flash lifetime and performance. This makes the file system more adaptable to your needs and helps to minimize data loss due to unplanned power interruptions.

For DVR/dashcams, this feature can optimize the hardware cost for super capacitors or other temporary power sources that keep the device online in case of power interruption. The extent of the cost saving will depend on your system configuration – get in touch with us if you’re interested in saving hardware costs in your future systems.

Read-only compression

With this feature, read-only system files are compressed while load times are faster even with decompression. Compressed files can take up to 40% less space, leading to potential cost savings from using a smaller storage device. In automotive systems, for example, compression frees up more space for advanced software features.

fs-verity and fs-crypt

Tuxera Reliance Velocity supports fs-verity and fs-crypt. fs-verity takes advantage of Linux functionality to provide support for the data integrity and authenticity of the read-only files, preventing unintentional modifications. In addition, Tuxera Reliance Velocity continues to support fs-crypt for efficient, file-based encryption. This is especially valuable in industrial applications where data security is paramount, for example, defense, aerospace, healthcare, automotive, and other industrial applications.

The latest release of Tuxera Reliance Velocity also includes support for Linux kernels up to 6.10. Other improvements include support for atomic directory updates and general maintenance updates.
