Tuxera Merges and Updates NTFS Open Source Projects — Releases Complete Cross-Platform NTFS Package as Open Source
Includes Driver, Library and Several Tools Such as Backup, Resizer, Recovery, Wiping and Defragmenter for Application Developers
HELSINKI, FINLAND–(April 14, 2011) – Tuxera Inc., the leading provider of Windows and Mac compatible file systems for Android, Linux, OS X and other platforms, announced today the release of a completely updated, fully cross-platform NTFS package under GNU GPL open source license. Tuxera NTFS Community Edition includes NTFS driver, library and over ten popular tools including backup, resizer, recovery, wiping and defragmenter.
The release binds together and extends upon the popular NTFS-3G and ntfsprogs projects. Developers have open access to a fully updated, easy-to-deploy toolset that has been integrated into the most popular Linux distributions and numerous well-known file system and storage management applications. Anyone can download the driver, library and tools and include them in other GPL-compatible open source projects. In addition, Tuxera has technically improved proprietary versions available for companies who wish to integrate any part of the NTFS package into commercial, embedded solutions or who do not want to be bound by the GPL.
“I am happy to announce a major update release of Tuxera NTFS Community Edition building on both NTFS-3G and ntfsprogs. In line with our commitment to open source the new package is released under GPL to ensure that every developer has an access to first-class NTFS tools to power their applications. Developer and user feedback is warmly appreciated. Tuxera will continuously improve the package and integrate other file system technologies based on requests,” noted Szabolcs Szakacsits, Tuxera CTO, who founded NTFS-3G and authored several popular tools in ntfsprogs like ntfsresize and ntfsclone.
