 Lost my files
I'm running FreeBSD 6.2 and I'm copying from a windows box almost 700GB worth of log files ~60GB per log file. I copied so far 300GB worth of data, but when I rebooted my freebsd server, I can no longer see my log files, even though a df -h shows almost 280GB used.
Thank you

If you didn't unmount the partition safely before you rebooted then you could indeed lost files. This is a known problem in the FreeBSD FUSE kernel driver. Other options are at http://ntfs-3g.org/support.html#locale3

Hi Szaka,
Thanks for your quick reply. Yes I rebooted just once without unmounting my partition. So basically I have to start all over again, because I tried mounting and unmounting, with no success.

Hi,
Please also note that no data integrity guarantee when umount returns. Only if the relevant ntfs-3g process is also exited (gone from the process list). Not even sync helps if ntfs-3g is still running because data are cached in user space.
Unfortunately the FreeBSD umount code doesn't wait until ntfs-3g flushes all data to the disk, and this can cause serious problems, e.g. fast reboot or device detachment when data are still not on the disk fully.
