 UserMapping / ACLs
Hi,
I am trying to get an understanding of how NTFS-ACLs will be applied on my MAC. As of now, it seems that creating a .Tutera-NTFS/UserMapping has no effect on it. Does anybody know, how to set up NTFS-ACLs oder - instead - make use of POSIX-ACLs on that NTFS-volume?
Many thanks in advance...

 Re: UserMapping / ACLs
Hi all,
I have figured out, that the UserMapping file has to be located in ".NTFS-3G" folder, not ".Tuxera-NTFS". So far, so good. Creating this file - even with empty content - lets Tuxera NTFS mount the volume in a streightforward manner. Furthermore, by specifying the mount option "extended_security" you can create and edit as much POSIX-ACLs as you want. They are applied and work. That are two good options.
Again, so far so good. My next issue was, that I didn't understand, why the I could write files within some folders and in some others I could not. I was confused. I took a look onto the NTFS-ACLs and saw the problem: In some directories the ACL contains the well known SID "S-1-5-32-545" which is related to the "BUILTIN/Users" group in Windows. But here comes a really big problem: Adding this SID to the UserMapping files ends up with the error "There were no valid user or no valid group". Reading the source code made me understand where this behavior comes from: It simply is not included in "layout.h", which defines many well known SIDs, but not the very most common "User", "Administrators" et cetera.
So if this posting is read by one of the DEVELOPERS: Adding those is a MUST for the next release. There are many mostly useless SIDs defined, so please add those basic ones asap.
A quick respone on that issue would be nice.
Many thanks and best regards, Tobias Punke
