Post Any windows chkdsk like solution for linux ?
Hi,

I'am involved in making mobile linux device.
And I'am considering for using ntfs-3g to one of the partitions in the device.

Now, I have some problem when the device is power down unexpectedly.
I cannot remount ntfs-3g partiotion after abnormal power down.
I know that it can be revovered by attatching it to windows and run 'chkdsk x: /F'
But, what I want is for my linux device itself to recover that corrupted partition.
(I am concerned only the case where windows chkdsk can repair the partition.)

Is there any solution, you have, that perform chkdsk functionality (for ntfs-3g) in linux ?
(ntfs-3g 'recover' option does not work.)
I just want to find out 'NTFS partition recovery solution' running at linux.

Does your commercial version support that feature ?

Maybe you try a Windows emulator such as wine.

Thanks for replying.

But, I think wine is too heavy for my linux device.
And I have no idea of using wine with 'chkdsk'.

There may be some mis-understanding.
My linux device is a mobile device which has SD-card slot.
And SD-card can be formatted with NTFS.
So, I want my linux device inself can detect and recover
file system corruption of SD card.

I need small program running at embedded linux that can recorver
NTFS file system corruption which may be caused by abnormal power down.

Regards

Youngjin.

And the SD card can be plugged on a computer running Windows.

And, as to my knowledge there is no free software to do that, you have to be satisfied with what exists. But ntfs-3g is becoming more and more safe, so this need becomes very occasional.

Absolutely. The commercial Tuxera NTFS supports both online and offline volume recovery. You may contact sales@tuxera.com for more information.
